TwitterTitters talk: Wow, some brilliant coverage from around t'internet

IT was great to see this morning's piece in Metro's Ridiculant blog weighing up our progress so far.

We made the lead story in The AllTweetJournal too.(You can also read it on wordpress.) We're the splash, tweeple!

TwitterTitters, a new collection of comedy writing created through social networking site Twitter is set to tickle the nation’s funny bone in support of Red Nose Day with the publication of the TwitterTitters book, featuring comics Dave Spikey and Nat Coombs.

All proceeds from the book, which costs £4.99 to download or £9 in print, are to be donated to Red Nose Day by the creators of the project.

The TwitterTitters project, which was founded by Linda Jones and Louise Bolotin, set out to drive social change via Twitter, inviting comic writers to submit their work by using the social networking site to raise money for Comic Relief.

The finished book boasts exclusive new writing from Phoenix Nights co-creator Dave and a foreword from Nat whose comedy Chelsey: OMG! is an online phenomenon.

Dave has submitted a previously unseen story “The Best Medicine” for the collection which is an excerpt from his own upcoming book: “I gave him my kidney, then he stole my heart”.

OUR book of comedy writing powered through Twitter is out now. I'll return to say more about the roller coaster ride that has brought us here but I wanted to reiterate some of the ways Twitter has made this possible:

Calls for submissions were made through Twitter.
A team of editor, illustrator, judges and production coordinator was found.
We asked people to help publicise our effort in tweets.
We contacted journalists through Twitter.
Advice on various aspects of pulling a book together was sought on Twitter.
A PR agency got in touch to help through following us on Twitter.
Writers to help with this site were found.
Would-be contributors tweeted us links or sent direct messages.
The judges were found on Twitter.
The production coordinator and editor kept in touch via Twitter
Ten writers, all on Twitter have contributed.
Dave Spikey and Nat Coombs' support came thanks to contacts suggested.
News of publication has been tweeted and re-tweeted and now we hope that people can put their hands in their pockets and buy it.

SEE what I did there? Right so the fragrant MissCay is now in the midst of getting to grips with Lulu.com as we head towards publication of TwitterTitters.

I've endeavoured to contact everyone who has submitted a piece or six to let them know where they stand.

In case you missed a message and are wondering what happened, here's part of the email I've just sent out:

We were presented with more than 70 submissions and in the end the selection had to come down to a number of factors. For example, we could have filled the book with blog posts alone, but as we also had some quality short stories we had to sacrifice some of the blog posts. Our final selection also includes poetry and a monologue. We also had to balance different style of writing.

A NEW collection of comedy writing created through social networking site Twitter is set to tickle the nation’s funny bone thanks to backing from comics Dave Spikey and Nat Coombs.

The TwitterTitters project is driving social change through social media by aiming to boost funds for Red Nose Day. It now boasts exclusive new writing from Phoenix Nights co-creator Dave and a foreword from Nat whose comedy Chelsey: OMG! is an online phenomenon.

Dave has submitted a previously unseen story The Best Medicine for the charity collection which is an excerpt from his upcoming book I gave him my kidney, then he stole my heart.
The book will feature the best selection of new comedy writing collected by organisers through promoting the project on Twitter and is set to be published next week on www.lulu.com in time for Red Nose Day.

TwitterTitters judging set to get under way and more media coverage

THE TwitterTitters entries are winging their way to the judges today and we hope to have a final selection ready as soon as possible so that we can publish our new collection of comedy writing for Comic Relief in plenty of time to raise some cash for Red Nose Day 2009.

Ways you can help us raise more money for Comic Relief with TwitterTitters

THE submissions are still coming, thank you everyone.

Publicity is encouraging so that's all good.

We have been approached by two comedians off the telly about how they can contribute. Wahay.

RENOWNED 'new meeja' journalist Dave Lee has blogged on what he sees the point of Twitter as, listing reasons he believes it's worth a go especially for aspiring journalists.

This thoughtful post takes the time to challenge the Twitter nay-sayers who reckon life's too short to tweet.

Dave's points may be great food for thought for student journalists but I'd also say they ring just as true for an 'old media' hack like me. I've also been excited by the opportunities Twitter has brought my way after 20 years in this business and I hope that TwitterTitters can go on and underline that belief.
